TESTING FLOATING ISLANDS FOR WIND FARMS OFFSHORE
More and more wind farms appear off the Dutch coast. And as they are placed further and further away from the shore, it becomes more complicated and costly to maintain these wind farms and to transmit electricity to land.
In the joint industry project HybridEnerSeaHub, MARIN together with Deltares, Offshore Service Facilities, Royal HaskoningDHV, TNO and WUR are investigating whether energy processing and storage as well as maintenance of wind farms, can take place offshore. The possible solution lies in a combination of permanent and floating islands situated close to the wind farms.
