Like a breaking ‘freak’ wave the corona crisis flooded over us. Nobody was expecting it, nobody was ready for it. And we are just in the early phases of realizing what the impact will be on our maritime sector. Transport, cruise, passengers, oil & gas, renewables – nothing will be untouched. And what will happen regarding the important trend of shifting towards sustainability: zero emission shipping, renewable energy and blue growth? With innovations in digital and autonomous shipping? The honest answer is: we don’t know. So there are many reasons for ‘feeling blue’.
But then it is important to remember the famous quote of William Arthur Ward: “The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails”.
So after ‘feeling blue’, we have to start ‘acting blue’! Now is the time to think about our joint future. Take action towards sustainability, despite the current uncertainty. That is why we organize the online webinar ‘The Future of Offshore Energy and Shipping’ on May 27, with important guests from the energy and shipping sector, such as Marjan van Loon.
