TU Delft’s Solar Boat Team became world champion in the Solar & Energy Boat Challenge in Monaco, July 2-6. The 28 students participated in The Offshore Challenge, the unofficial world championship for solar boats on the high seas.
The TU Delft Solar Boat Team 2019 consists of 28 students who try to make maritime shipping more sustainable. In the past, the team participated in inland waterway races, but the July race was the first time on the open sea.
The competitions took place on Friday and Saturday. On Friday the team finished third. On Saturday the TU was able to finish so fast that the students earned enough points to become world champions. Friday’s race was 30 kilometers long and Saturday’s race 60. The boat reached a speed of 35 kilometers per hour.
MARIN is a proud partner of the TU Delft Solar Boat Team and we congratulate the team on this great performance.
